Students celebrated the Constitution Day on 26th November by reading out the preamble and sharing their thoughts on the importance of the celebration followed by some informative session by the teachers. India celebrates Constitution Day, or National Law Day, every year on November 26 as it marks the day the Indian Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.
It is interesting to understand that it was only recently when in 2015, the Government of India decided to establish November 26 as Constitution Day to advance "constitutional values among residents". The day was declared in the year which marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution.
Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas commemorates the adoption of the world’s longest written constitution. Principal ma’am informed students that the Indian Constitution is a set of written principles and precedents of the Government of India. Our constitution ensures its citizen’s equality, liberty, and justice. She insisted on the importance of the constitution for the relevance of the our rights by quoting a few words of Mahatma Gandhi-“To safeguard democracy, the people must have a keen sense of independence, self-respect, and their oneness, and should insist upon choosing as their representatives only such persons as are good and true”. She further told that the constitution frames fundamental political principles, procedures, rights, directive principles, restrictions, and duties of the government and the citizens of the country. The special assembly ended with a small quiz on constitution.
